How to choose the right dry food for your puppy?
When you bring your new family member home for the first time, you want to do everything you can to ensure that he or she is happy and settled in. By choosing the right food, you can ensure that your puppy gets everything they need and has the best conditions for a happy life.
Often, the breeder will send a little of the food it has eaten until it is picked up. The puppy's intestinal flora is very sensitive, and changing the type of food should be done gradually. However, there are more than enough new impressions for the little one when it is placed in a new home, so feel free to give it the food it is used to for the first few weeks before you change the type of food. When the time comes to change dry food, you should choose a variety based on the dog's expected adult weight. Most food manufacturers also offer puppy food specially adapted to different breeds, so that the puppy gets exactly the important nutrients it needs.
Dry food or wet food?
You can feed your puppy both dry and wet food - most four-legged friends appreciate a little variety! Dry food is still the most common food option, and is what we recommend as the basic food for both puppies and adult dogs. Not only is dry food convenient in terms of storage, it also usually covers all of your puppy's needs. In addition, dry food is good for your teeth and helps prevent and treat tartar. Wet food is a good supplement from time to time, and usually consists of a pâté or pieces of meat in a sauce. This type of food has a high liquid content and is great for puppies who need extra fluids, as a reward or just as a really good meal.
How much dry food should a puppy have?
Exactly how many grams of dry food a puppy should have varies based on size, breed, and activity level. For example, do you have an active and energetic friend who always wants to join in on the fun and adventures? Then you may need more food in the food bowl than if you had a calmer dog of the same size. Check the feeding table on the back of the products or contact one of our skilled veterinarians, and we will be happy to help you!
