Facts about the breed

The Whippet is the most common sighthound in Norway and was bred for racing and hare hunting around the 18th century. In the Victorian period in England, it was called "the poor man's racehorse" as it was much cheaper to feed than the large Greyhound, and required less space than a racehorse. It is believed that the Whippet was bred by using various terrier breeds and small Greyhounds.

Farming and trade

If you wish to become the owner of a Whippet, you should make sure to find a reputable breeder. The cost of a Whippet will vary, but you can expect the price for a Whippet to be approximately 15,000 to 18,000 NOK.

It is important to choose a seller who provides information on how the dog was bred, to ensure that you are not contributing to uncontrolled or illegal dog trading. Unfortunately, not all breeders operate in a responsible and proper manner, which can lead to serious illnesses in the puppies. Being well-prepared and finding a reliable breeder is therefore best for both you and the dog.
