Facts about the breed

The Rhodesian Ridgeback dog breed originated in South Africa. They are known for their distinctive "ridge," which consists of hair growing in the opposite direction to the rest of their coat. This characteristic is also what gave the breed its name. Ridgeback dogs are large and muscular. Thanks to their athletic physique, they are known for being excellent hunting dogs, especially for big game such as lions and leopards. The breed also has a natural inclination to be a guard dog, but this should not be encouraged.

Farming and trade

If a Rhodesian Ridgeback sounds like the right dog for you, we recommend contacting the breed club for more information. It is important to choose a seller who provides information on how the dog was bred, to ensure that you are not contributing to uncontrolled or illegal dog trading.

Unfortunately, not all breeders operate in a responsible and proper manner, which can lead to serious diseases in puppies. Being well-prepared and finding a reliable breeder is therefore the best option for both you and the dog.
