Facts about the breed

Although "ovtcharka" means sheepdog, this is not a sheepdog in the normal sense. A Caucasian ovtcharka is primarily an ancient breed, originating from the Caucasus Mountains between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. It is also a guardian dog, which, due to its massive build, has protected homes for centuries. It is important to note that a Caucasian ovtcharka is a primitive dog. This means that you should have solid experience with dogs to establish the best relationship with it.

Farming and trade

When acquiring a Caucasian Shepherd, you must do sufficient research on the breed and consider whether you can provide the right environment for the dog. You must also set aside time to find a reliable and knowledgeable breeder. This lays the foundation for your entire experience with the dog. The breeder must be able to provide a pedigree and medical history. Unfortunately, not all breeders engage in safe breeding practices, and we would not want you to end up in a situation where you indirectly contribute to unsafe or illegal breeding of Caucasian Shepherds.
