Collection: Hamster

A hamster is a small pet that is known for its distinctive appearance and cute cheek pouches. Together with its charming personality, this has led to hamsters becoming popular pets in Norwegian homes. For many, a hamster may be the first pet to take care of. It is important to remember that even though a rodent is a little easier to be responsible for than a dog, hamsters have important needs that must be met! On this page you will find hamster food and other accessories for hamsters.

Different needs of different hamster species

There are several different species of hamsters, and each breed has its own unique characteristics and personality traits.

Syrian golden hamster

This species is the largest hamster breed. Syrian hamsters are known for their friendly nature and love to explore, and are also the most common hamster species.
It is important to note that Syrian golden hamsters must be kept alone . If several hamsters are placed together, they may argue and fight, which can lead to serious injury or potentially death.

Winter white dwarf hamster

Winter White Dwarf Hamsters are small, round and cautious hamsters that reach an adult size of approximately 8 to 10 centimeters. They are considered very shy and easily stressed thanks to a strong prey drive. This can make it challenging to get them to feel relaxed outside of their cage.

Roborovski dwarf hamster

The smallest of all hamster species, Roborovski dwarf hamsters are both energetic and curious. They are great choices for people who want a lively little paw, but can be difficult to handle due to their small size. These hamsters are also very social and should be kept in pairs or groups.

Campbell's dwarf hamster

Campbell's hamsters are quite similar to winter white dwarf hamsters, but are more social creatures and often thrive in pairs. They are also a bit tougher and more robust, which makes them braver both inside and outside the cage. They come in a variety of colors and fur patterns. If you are considering getting a Campbell's dwarf hamster, you should be prepared to be patient, as they can be a bit more challenging to tame compared to many other hamster types. This is due to their strong territorial instincts, which make them quite defensive, and they can also perceive human fingers as a threat.

Hamster care

The hamster's cage should be equipped with various toys and equipment so that it can stay active. Hamsters have a significant need for physical activity. You can often choose cages that come with equipment such as hamster wheels and tunnels.

It is important to put a thick layer of bedding material at the bottom of the cage for the hamster to dig and make tunnels in. Suitable bedding material can be cage shavings or cage bedding made from cellulose fiber.

When it comes to the hamster's diet, it mainly consists of hamster pellets, and we offer various brands of hamster food in our range. To ensure that the water remains clean, it is recommended to provide it in a water bottle. Hamsters tend to spill and dig, which can make the water in a water bowl dirty. It is important to regularly clean the water bottle and tube thoroughly, and change the water daily.
